EON: A New Era of Hearing Care is Here.
Phonak has today announced EON, the next generation of its Sphere technology, and it is a genuine step forward: smaller, lighter, more efficient and built to keep you hearing clearly in almost any environment. Here is everything you need to know, and how to secure your place in the UK delivery queue ahead of launch.
37% More efficient processing vs Infinio Sphere
25% Smaller than Infinio Sphere
20% Lighter design
38h Battery life on a single charge
The launch marks a genuine step change for the range. EON spans three devices: the Audéo EON Sphere, the new flagship model built for mild to profound hearing loss, the Audéo EON R, which brings the same connected, AI-driven experience in a more accessible model and the CROS EON R, designed specifically for single-sided or unaidable hearing loss.
If you currently wear, or are considering, a Phonak Infinio Sphere, this is the release to watch. Read on for the full breakdown of what EON brings to the range, and see below how to pre-order with us now ahead of the first UK shipments landing with audiologists on 14th September.
What is the Phonak Audéo EON Sphere?
The Audéo EON Sphere is the new flagship receiver-in-canal (RIC) hearing aid from Phonak, suitable for mild to profound hearing loss. It is the first device to be built on Phonak's new HYPERSONIC chip and brings together three headline technologies in one smaller, lighter shell: Spheric Speech Clarity 3.0 for speech-in-noise performance, AutoSense OS AI 8.0 for automatic scene adaptation, and Made-For-All connectivity for streaming to virtually any Bluetooth enabled device.
In plain terms, it is designed to do the thing that matters most: help you follow conversation in noisy, unpredictable, real-world environments, without you having to think about adjusting anything yourself.
The key numbers: smaller, lighter, more efficient
Phonak has been clear about the engineering gains behind EON Sphere, and they are the biggest jump we have seen since the original Sphere launch. Compared with the previous Sphere generation, EON Sphere is:
-
37% more efficient in its processing, thanks to the new HYPERSONIC chip running Spheric Speech Clarity 3.0
-
25% smaller, for a more discreet, comfortable fit
-
20% lighter, which makes a genuine difference for all-day wear
-
Capable of up to 38 hours of battery life on a single charge, depending on hearing loss, streaming usage and activated features
That efficiency gain is what makes the rest possible. A more efficient chip needs a smaller battery and less supporting hardware, which is how Phonak has managed to shrink the shell without asking you to compromise on performance or wearing time.
The HYPERSONIC chip and Spheric Speech Clarity 3.0
Every EON Sphere is powered by Phonak's newly developed HYPERSONIC chip, purpose-built to run Spheric Speech Clarity 3.0, the third generation of Phonak's real-time AI speech processing. It uses deep neural network processing to separate speech from background noise as it happens, working to help you understand speech more clearly from any direction, even in genuinely difficult listening situations.
The result is designed to feel less like "wearing a hearing aid" and more like simply being able to keep up with a conversation, whether that is across a dinner table, in a busy waiting room, or over a video call with grandchildren.
AutoSense OS AI 8.0: scene intelligence in real time
Running alongside Spheric Speech Clarity 3.0 is AutoSense OS AI 8.0, Phonak's automatic scene intelligence system. It continuously analyses your surrounding sound environment and activates the right combination of features for that specific situation, whether you have just walked from a quiet office into a busy street, or sat down in a restaurant where three conversations are happening at once.
The two systems work in parallel, in real time, so the hearing aid is constantly adjusting itself in the background. You should not need to reach for an app or a remote control to feel the benefit.
WindBlock 2.0: built for life outdoors
Anyone who has struggled with wind noise while walking, gardening or simply standing at a bus stop will appreciate this one. EON Sphere introduces WindBlock 2.0, which automatically reduces wind noise and is designed to improve clarity outdoors without you having to do anything. Phonak's own testing included an Arctic field trial, where the technology was put through genuinely extreme conditions, so this is not a feature designed only for a gentle breeze.
Made-For-All connectivity and Auracast
EON Sphere offers what Phonak describes as the most comprehensive connectivity currently available in a hearing aid. It combines Bluetooth Classic, Roger Direct and Auracast broadcast audio in one device, meaning it works with virtually any Bluetooth enabled phone, tablet or laptop for calls, music and TV streaming.
Auracast support is a particularly exciting addition. As more public venues such as theatres, museums, airports and gyms roll out Auracast broadcast audio, EON Sphere wearers will be able to stream announcements, tour guidance and performances directly to their hearing aids, no separate receiver required.
If you are new to streaming with hearing aids, our guide on Bluetooth hearing aids covers the basics of how this connectivity works day to day.
Colours and charging options
EON Sphere will launch in eight colour options, giving you a genuine choice between a discreet, skin-toned finish or a bolder statement colour. Two new charging solutions have also been introduced: a portable charger with an integrated battery for charging on the move, and a desktop charging solution for a reliable overnight top-up at home.
Meet the wider EON family: EON R and CROS EON R
EON Sphere sits at the top of the new range, but it is not the only device Phonak has launched. The full EON portfolio has been built so that there is a suitable option whatever your hearing loss and budget, all sharing the same connected, AI-driven foundation.
Phonak Audéo EON R
The Audéo EON R carries the same AutoSense OS AI 8.0 scene intelligence and Made-For-All connectivity as EON Sphere, in a device suited to mild to profound hearing loss without the very top tier of Spheric Speech Clarity processing. It offers Tap Control for answering calls and pausing music with a simple tap, along with the same Auracast broadcast audio access, so you can join public broadcasts in venues like theatres and museums. For many wearers, EON R offers an excellent balance of the newest Phonak technology at a more accessible level within the range.
Phonak CROS EON R
The CROS EON R is designed for single-sided or unaidable hearing loss. It pairs with an Audéo EON R worn in the aidable ear, picking up sound from the side with little or no usable hearing and routing it across to the working ear. This means sound from both sides of the room, not just one, which can make a significant difference in noisy settings such as busy restaurants or family gatherings. Like the rest of the range, it is built for lightweight, all-day comfort.
Whichever EON device is the right fit for your hearing loss, all three share the same core DNA: real-time AI processing, Auracast-ready connectivity, and a design built for comfortable, all-day wear.
EON Sphere vs Infinio Sphere: what has changed?
If you already wear Infinio Sphere, you are not starting from a weak position. Infinio Sphere remains a genuinely excellent hearing aid and continues to be one of our most popular models. EON Sphere is best thought of as a refinement: the same core philosophy of AI-driven, real-time sound processing, delivered in a smaller, lighter, more efficient package.
